Frederik Satre is a fictional character. He is also a very real part of myself. He is what remains in me forever changed through the encounter with another. Carlos, Roger, Alfred. The relationships with these men did not last. In fact, they were hardly what most people would classify a relationship. They lacked duration, commitment, a shared everyday life.

Instead the liaison with each of them brought inspiration and conflict, pain and transformation. I admired Carlos for his energy, willpower and courage, Alfred for his independence and determination, I loved Roger for his charme, lightness and the tender sadness that lay behind it. When they left, when I left, I was transformed. More courageous and independent, less anxious and a little bit less alone in the world.

Carlos is a musician and very much alive. Alfred was a sculptor. He died in 1995, just one year after I had met him. Roger was a screen printer and everyday poet. He died in 2010 - according to web research.

Some part of them lives on in me. I name that part Frederik Satre.
